The Victorian Government’s Living Libraries Infrastructure Program has funded upgrades at Thomastown Library and a new outreach vehicle for Yarra Plenty Regional Library (YPRL).
The official reopening of Thomastown Library and the launch of the outreach vehicle took place on Friday, 30 August 2024.
The $310,710 refurbishment project received $178,806 from the 2023-24 Living Libraries Infrastructure Program and $131,904 from YPRL.
The upgrades include:
- A new maker space
- Custom-built workstations with cribs for parents
- Single study booths
- Dedicated study and quiet areas
These improvements make the library a more flexible and welcoming space for the community.
Additionally, YPRL has introduced a new $363,000 outreach vehicle, funded by $150,000 from the 2022-23 Living Libraries Infrastructure Program and $213,000 from YPRL.
The Mercedes Benz Sprinter vehicle is fully equipped with shelving, LED lighting, a solar system, and other features to extend library services to more remote areas.
These enhancements make Thomastown Library and YPRL's outreach services more accessible and beneficial, supporting learning, technology access, and community connection.
