What does Local Government Victoria do in emergency management?
The Local Government Victoria (LGV) Emergencies Team works across municipal, regional and state tiers to support councils to meet their legislative and community emergency management responsibilities and delivers projects and initiatives that build the capability, capacity and resilience of local governments before, during and after emergencies.
Through three target areas the Local Government Emergencies Team seeks to increase the capacity and resilience of local governments in emergency management.
Councils and Emergencies Project
The Councils and Emergencies Project is a multi-year, three-phase project to enhance the capability and capacity of councils to meet their emergency management obligations. The project is listed as a state-wide strategic priority in the Victorian Emergency Management Strategic Action Plan, after having initially been identified in the Hazelwood Mine Fire Inquiry Report.
