The Victorian Government has committed $6.3 million to a two-year Earn and Learn pilot program aimed at addressing critical skills shortages in local councils.
The program will upskill a pipeline of workers into areas of need, supporting retention and progression within the local government sector.
RMIT University is leading the program in partnership with Federation University, Swinburne University of Technology, and Victoria University. Together, they will collaborate with the local government sector throughout 2024 and 2025 to identify skills shortages and co-design tailored training opportunities for prospective participants.
Program update: December 2024
The first phase of the program is set to launch between February and June 2025. Courses will be delivered by program partners over approximately 10-12 weeks, using a mix of self-paced online modules and teacher-led workshops.
The Lead and Mentor skill set will be offered first, followed by courses in Mental Health and Resilience, Project and Change Management, and Critical Thinking and Problem Solving.
Course and enrolment details will be released early 2025 and emailed to all contacts who have expressed interest in participating in the pilot program. If you would like to add your name to the contact list or have any questions, please email innovation.projects@rmit.edu.au.
