Nine vibrant murals and a light-installation from local and other talented artists have energised the streets of Footscray as part of Maribyrnong City Council's StreetWORKS program, supported by the Victorian Government.
Now in its tenth year, the program showcases innovative visual art in urban environments, discourages graffiti and tagging, activates key locations in Footscray and supports local creative communities.
Internationally renowned contemporary artist, Brook Andrew's large-scale light installation Welcome to Footscray, features in this year's collection. Artists were selected through Maribyrnong City Council’s expression of interest process and included Colombian/German artist Katherine Gailer – whose artwork, Abundance, is a major 65-metre mural – and Eric Sesto, Madeline Mercer, Abbey Rich, Olana Janfer, Olivia McCracken, Tom Civil, Justine McAllister, Daniel van de Weil and Hayden DeWar.
The $355,000 Footscray StreetWORKS project is supported by $200,000 from the Victorian Government’s 2023-24 budget, with a further $155,000 from Maribyrnong City Council.
Visit the Maribyrnong City Council website for more information about this launch.
