Roadsides are a ready means for invasive plants and pest animals to spread throughout Victoria, threatening parks, forests and rural land asset values.

2019-2020

The $2.7 million Roadside Weeds and Pests Program (RWPP) 2019-2020 assists the 56 councils across Victoria responsible for managing lengths of rural roadsides. These councils receive up to $75,000 a year to manage invasive plants and pests along rural roadsides.

All councils that have Roadside Weeds and Pests Control Plans approved and endorsed by the Department of Jobs, Precincts, and Regions will automatically have their control plans extended for the 2019-2020 funding program.  A Control Plan Amendment Template is available for councils that wish to make amendments to their control plan.

2017-2019

The $5.4 million Roadside Weeds and Pests Program (RWPP) 2017-2019 assists the 56 councils across Victoria responsible for managing lengths of rural roadsides. These councils received up to $75,000 a year to manage invasive plants and pests along rural roadsides.

Control Plans

To receive funding, eligible councils must produce a Roadside Weeds and Pests Control Plan.  These plans outline the agreed approach to be undertaken by each council and identification of weeds and pests to be treated, and must be endorsed by the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions. Councils are required to report their progress against their plans and seek variations to the plan where required.

Further Information

The list of regionally prohibited, regionally controlled and restricted weeds and pests eligible for treatment under the RWPP is available at the Agriculture Victoria website
