Following two years of renovation and restoration works to return the historic Footscray Town Hall building for community use, the new and improved space, the Civic Precinct and Community Hub, is now complete.

To celebrate, Maribyrnong City Council hosted an official opening on Sunday, 9 February 2025, and welcomed residents to come down and enjoy the redeveloped space, including the adjoining community park.

The project included the refurbishment and conservation of the almost 90-year-old heritage listed Town Hall (in line with Heritage Victoria requirements), along with the demolition of the existing office and Community Wellbeing buildings, and construction of a new, modern six-star Green Star administration building and a new community park.

The build was funded in part by a $10 million dollar loan from the Victorian State Government’s Community Infrastructure Loans Scheme (CILS), which provides access to low-interest subsidised loans.
