Collaborations and Partnerships in Emergency Management

Emergency Management collaborations and partnerships, including MEMEGs, are regional committees linking councils with their neighbours and emergency management agencies. Collectively, they strengthen emergency management capability and capacity.

Regional MEMEGs are represented on a state MEMEG committee. For further information or to nominate a committee representative, contact Kathy Pryor.

Municipal Emergency Management Collaborations Learnings Report

Victoria’s 79 councils have been collaborating with their neighbouring councils on various aspects of emergency management planning and service delivery for many years.  This has not occurred as a result of a directive or legislation from the State or Commonwealth governments but voluntarily, from lessons learnt after major emergencies and limited capacity councils have to individually respond to emergencies for extended periods of time.

Local Government Victoria (LGV), Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) and Emergency Management Victoria (EMV) have partnered together as project sponsors to undertake a study of municipal emergency management collaboration models across the state.  The study provides an opportunity to better understand how these mechanisms can be incorporated and supported in Victoria's evolving emergency management system.

The independent Learnings Report has been compiled by the project consultants and provides an important snapshot of current municipal emergency management collaboration practices, challenges and opportunities after extensive collaboration across the state with 12 current municipal emergency management collaborative models.
