Local government plays a critical leadership role in shaping the culture and attitudes of their communities through service provision, planning and procurement, as large employers and via initiatives they run at a local level.

The State Government is partnering with councils to promote gender equality to stop the scourge of family violence, with $2 million available in this grants round for local government. Grants are available for councils to build capacity and capability across their organisation and embed primary prevention principles and activity, as well as scale up or develop innovative prevention programs that are tailored to the needs of their respective communities.

This funding is part of the $15.5 million in the2017-18 Victorian Budget to deliver prevention of family violence initiatives.

Councils are able to apply for individual or collective grants to support new and existing work.
