Glen Eira is a mature, virtually fully developed city. It is close to Melbourne’s central business district, Port Phillip Bay, the Mornington Peninsula and major retail areas. Land use is predominantly residential with associated retail and services.
Glen Eira is a densely populated and culturally very diverse residential area in the inner south-east of Melbourne. Of its residents, 37.4 per cent were born overseas, 30.4 per cent speak a language other than English at home. 50.7 per cent are Christian, 16.6 per cent are Jewish and 15 per cent have a disability. It is home to Caulfield Racecourse and the Caulfield Campus of Monash University.

Councillors are elected through proportional representation voting.
From November 2008 general council elections, all Victorian councillors serve a four year term.
