Councils Reforming Business – Guidelines for Local Laws resources


On Thursday 18 February the Minister for Local Government launched the Guidelines for Local Laws resources at the LGPro Annual Conference.

The Guidelines includes a comprehensive Manual, Resource Book, Overview and Training Program to assist councils to achieve better practice in local law making.

Councils Reforming Business – Procurement Professional Program 2010


The Victorian Government has funded a comprehensive and accredited 12 month Procurement Professionals Program (PPP) for Victorian Local Government procurement professionals. The course is the first of its kind in Australia. It was first offered in 2009 and a second round of the PPP beginning 13 April 2010 is currently available to Council staff.

Conflict of Interest - Consultation


Local Government Victoria is inviting submissions in response to the consultation paper (PDF 166 kb) or (Word 223 kb) on Conflict of Interest. The conflict of interest rules for Victorian Councils were substantially updated in December 2008 and feedback is now invited about their practical effectiveness after a full year of operation. Public submissions are invited by 26 February 2010 and an electronic template (Word 136 kb) is provided to assist submissions.

Electoral Representation Reviews - Consultation


Local Government Victoria has issued a consultation paper (PDF 116 kb) or (Word 161 kb) which considers possible reforms to the Electoral Representation Review process for councils. Electoral Representation Reviews are currently conducted for each municipality every eight years to consider electoral structures and electoral boundaries. Public submissions are invited by 22 January 2010 and an electronic template (Word 103 kb) is provided to assist submissions.

Better Practice Local Laws Guidelines


The consultation draft of the Guidelines for Local Laws Manual is now available for review. LGV encourages feedback on this resource to support Councils in achieving better practice.

Register of Interests Guide


All Councillors, members of Council special committees and nominated staff must lodge primary and ordinary returns in which they disclose particular private interests that have the potential to become conflicts of interest. Read the Register of Interests Guide.
