With their extensive local knowledge and close community connections, councils play a critical role in the planning and delivery of emergency management activities in Victoria.
LGV helps to build councils’ emergency management capability and capacity.
- Leading a three-year Councils and Emergencies project. This project will clarify council roles and develop action plans to ensure councils have the skills and expertise to meet their emergency management obligations.
- Coordinating the Municipal Emergency Resourcing Program which builds emergency management capacity in rural, regional and peri-urban councils.
- Providing support to Municipal Emergency Management Enhancement Groups (MEMEGs). MEMEG partnerships bring councils together to collectively strengthen their emergency management capability and capacity.
- Reporting on Collaborative Emergency Management, looking at the benefits and costs of collaborative approaches to emergency management.
