Investigations & Reviews
Until August 2009, Local Government Victoria (LGV) conducted investigations into breaches of the Local Government Act 1989. Reports of investigations conducted by LGV are below.
On 12 August 2009, the Premier the Hon John Brumby announced the establishment of a new and independent Local Government Investigations and Compliance Inspectorate as a separate administrative office headed by a Chief Municipal Inspector. Information about the role and functions of the new inspectorate is available in the Premier's
media release.Future reports on investigations will be published by the new Local Government Investigations and Compliance Inspectorate.
Report on Brimbank City Council
In May 2009, the Minister for Local Government appointed Mr William Ivan Scales AO, Inspector of Municipal Administration to monitoring of the ongoing activities and performance of the Brimbank City Council. Mr Scales’ Second Report was tabled in Parliament on 15 September 2009.

Kensington Boundary Review
The Minister for Local Government, the Hon Richard Wynne MP, announced on 12 December 2007 that the municipal boundary between the Melbourne City Council and Moonee Valley City Council be altered so the that the balance of the suburbs of Kensington and North Melbourne are brought under the Melbourne City Council. The realigned boundary will also see both north and south sides of the Racecourse Road shopping centre remain within the Moonee Valley City Council. The altered boundary came into effect on 1 July 2008.

Report on the Investigation into Greater Geelong City Council – June 2006
Report on the allegations that Greater Geelong City Councillors, elected at the annual elections held in November 2004, received gifts from campaign support funds and did not properly disclose them in accordance with Section 81 of the Local Government Act 1989 (the Act).

Report of Investigation into Glen Eira City Council – July 2005
On 28 September 2004, the Glen Eira City Council requested the Minister for Local Government to appoint an Inspector of Municipal Administration to investigate and report on matters arising out of an audit of Councillors’ expenses by its internal auditor, in particular breaches by Councillors of the policy relating to the use of Council-supplied telephones. The Minister acted on the Council’s request. This document is available online only.
