Local Area Planning Support Program
The Local Area Planning Support Program is a key initiative of A Fairer Victoria, the Victorian Governments social policy action plan. The $3.1 million grant program has been specifically developed to encourage local councils to develop new skills, resources and processes to enhance evidence based decision-making for local area planning. Local Area Planning Support Funded Guidelines
The guidelines, Embedding Community Priorities into Council Planning: Guidelines for the Integration of Community and Council Planning - May 2008 (PDF 1352 kb) or (Word 751 kb) have the following objectives:
- Support the Victorian Local Government Sector in the effective integration of community and council planning.
- Integrate the extensive activities and expertise from across the State in the areas of community and council planning into one set of guidelines, sharing learning from good practice and bringing the sector together around a common framework.
- Provide a broad framework and guidance for State Government Departments and other agencies working closely with local councils to engage and plan for local communities.
Local Area Planning Support Program – Projects
In 2006 the Minister for Local Government announced the 26 projects of up to $150,000 that will receive the $3.08 million Local Area Planning Support Program grants. The 26 grants will be distributed amongst 61 councils.
The successful projects will assist councils develop better data collection and management systems to identify community need, develop good practice guides for local area planning and plan for infrastructure in growth areas of the state.
